Honor Mission: Military Honors for Seven Unclaimed Veterans | Boscawen, New Hampshire – 04/24/2024

Honor Mission
Military Honors for Seven Unclaimed Veterans
U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force

April 24, 2024
Boscawen, New Hampshire

About the Mission:

When:    Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 9:00 AM
What:     Military Honors for one US Air Force, four US Army, and two US Navy Veterans
Where:   NH State Veterans Cemetery, Section D (Chapel in case of inclement weather)
Who:       All are invited to attend

When a NH funeral home closed nearly three years ago, the cremated remains of over 70 individuals were left unclaimed. Jill Huckins and her team at the City of Concord Cemetery Division took possession of the unclaimed remains and diligently researched each individual. They were able to identify eight potential veterans, as well as the spouse of one of the veterans. The staff at the NHSVC then worked with the Veterans Administration to confirm eligibility of seven of the veterans (one was not eligible). During the confirmation process, it was determined that plot allowances were previously paid on four of the veterans. The NH Veterans Cemetery Association (NHVCA) graciously volunteered to reimburse the state for the four plot allowances and the spouse interment fee–a total of $950.

Thanks to the hard work of Jill and her team, the NHSVC staff, and the generosity of the NHVCA, we are able to provide the military honors and inurnments EARNED by each of these veterans and a spouse.

We will conduct seven individual services consecutively beginning at 9:00 AM. The urns will be brought, one at a time, to the gravesite (or chapel) and honors, to include Taps and flag fold, will be conducted for each. The order of services will be Army, Navy, Army, Navy, Army, Air Force, Army. The entire ceremony will last approximately 40 minutes.
