Dear Nick Marks,
Thank you is not enough to express the gratitude that we have for your help during The Wall’s visit to Amherst. It does indeed take a village and your help made the event run smoothly and helped make everyone’s visit meaningful.
Thousands of people, including Vietnam veterans experienced the power and emotion of this special memorial. The stories that you heard, whether while researching a name or escorting a visitor along the wall helped to heal and in some cases offered closure. The security teams provided a guide to our late night visitors and ensured their safety as well as to watch over this standing tribute. During the entire event, we were overwhelmed with offers to set up, take down, move water, add the lighting, move chairs, and so much more.
The many hugs, tears, smiles, stories and solemn tributes were outstanding and have helped to create a sense of community. Having The Wall in Amherst means that those that were affected by The Vietnam War could heal and those that knew very little of this event could become aware and honor those affected.
Thank you for making that possible and for making our communities shine as the special places we know them to be.
Marie Grella, Peter Lyon and The Wall Committee
